Principle of Production of the LOM 2030E

An adhesive coated material  made out of paper, plastic or metal foil is glued layer after layer on a build platform and on the previous layers of the model. With a laser beam, the contour of one slice-layer is drawn and cut into the foil. The final result is a 3 dimensional work piece. The neutral market name for this process is layer laminated manufacturing (LLM).

The LOM-System consists of a foil roll and a transport unit, or lamination device and a laser including positioning device. A foil is spread over the work surface.

An electrically heated roller (laminar roller) is driven over the plane. It has the function to warm the dried hot glue on the backside of the foil while the foil is being put down.  At the same time the roller applies a moderate pressure to the foil layer, thus each layer is bound with one another.

The computer controlled Laser cuts the contour of the part according to the slice data that the computer provides.
After the cutting, the platform is lowered a layer thickness, then the next foil layer is spread. The process begins new. The result of the build process is a block, in which the work piece ( or several work pieces) are embedded.
